FALL POP-UP SHOP AT LAFAYETTE ART & WINE FESTIVAL

September 21 & 22, 2024​

Our young entrepreneurs set up shop for more than 60,000 visitors at the Lafayette Art & Wine Festival. They sold everything from dog biscuits and artwork to housewares and fashion accessories.

Our young entrepreneurs enjoyed an exciting in-person educational experience at the lovely and amazing Wish Boutique in Walnut Creek. The day kicked off with a scavenger hunt, followed by a workshop with Sasha Varni, founder and owner of Wish.

SPRING POP-UP SHOP

Our 6th Annual Spring Pop-up Shop featured more than 60 entrepreneurs selling their one-of-a-kind goods and services. From face painting and maple tree seedlings to skincare products and handmade works of art, there was something for everyone.

Our guest for this season’s Superpower Hour workshop was Claudia Walker, an Oakland based author and speaker, whose work has been featured in Forbes, Essence, and Black Enterprise. In January 2023, Ms. Walker launched a Black History Month collaboration with Target. She shared her unique founder story with us.

WINTER POP-UP SHOP

During our 5th Annual Winter Pop-up Shop in Lafayette, California, visitors found something for everyone on their holiday list. Local merchants shopped for Girls Crushing It products to showcase in their brick and mortar locations. Our youngest visitors were even able to shop with the help of a teen shopping assistant.

We joined forces with the Lafayette Chamber on presenting Girls Crushing It Pavilion as part of the the Lafayette Art & Wine Festival. During this two-day event, our young entrepreneurs welcomed festival-goers from all corners of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Retail got real for our four Pitchfest Competition winners who sold their products in-store at Title Nine's bustling Berkeley, California location. Title nine is the nation's largest independently owned retailer of women's outdoor and athletic apparel.

This masterclass was offered to our advanced cohort who have been working for more than a year on launching and managing their online storefronts. Along with Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center, we offered Course #2: Give Your Business a Social Distancing Makeover. In this course girls used Stanford d.school's design thinking framework to strategize ways to adapt their business models in response to the pandemic.

After our debut at the farmers market, we put a call out on social media for a few girls to join us at our next farmers market pop-up. More than 40 girls signed up and we outgrew the farmers market. More than 400 people attended this event, and we incorporated as a nonprofit shortly thereafter.

Architect and artist, Lara Dutto, joined us for our Superpower Hour. During this session, participants learned that combining a passion for art and math can lead to a career in architecture. Our entrepreneurs were delighted and inspired learning about the contributions of female architects and the academic path to this exciting career.

TITLE NINE PITCHFEST COMPETITION

Eleven Pitchfest finalists pitched their products for a day of camaraderie, confidence-building and a chance to sell their products in-store at Title Nine's Berkeley, California location. Four winners were selected to sell at Title Nine and receive some very cool prizes, including $500 to invest in their business endeavor.

CEO SELF-CARE FOR TWEENS & TEENS

Our entrepreneurs grabbed their coziest pajamas for a self-care pajama party with Girls Crushing It BFF, Angela Caglia. Girls learned lifelong skills to help balance their busy lives and nurture their​ emotional well-being. They also had fun trading tips on finding pockets of joy.

During this workshop, Joel spoke about his path to becoming a CEO and shared lessons learned throughout nearly two decades in the wonderful world of chocolate. Ghirardelli, a San Francisco-based, world famous chocolate company, was founded in 1852! Joel talked about continuing the brand's legacy.

We were over the moon about launching our Rising Star Tradeshow in conjunction with our Spring 2023 Pop-up! Those who completed our Wonderful World of Wholesale workshop and the required follow-up steps were able to pitch their products to local retail business owners during our Spring Pop-up, in addition to selling to the general public.

WORKSHOP: COLLEGE PREP 101

March 5, 2023​

Participants in this workshop gained a high-level overview of the college admissions process and learned the importance of charting their own unique path. They learned practical tips for tailoring their descriptions of their involvement in extracurricular activities. They also received tools to help track their progress and achievements. This workshop culminated into a rare opportunity for Q&A with a college admissions expert.

In this workshop, participants were introduced to foundational concepts related to retail merchandising. They learned about the importance of being prepared to engage with our guest speaker. They also gained knowledge about skincare as a product category and were introduced to SEPHORA as a retail brand. Finally, they learned academic pathways to a career in retail.

This entry-level program was offered to girls in the early stages of starting a business as well as those kickstarting a business from scratch. Participants were awarded startup capital, stipends and had access to 1:1 business coaching.
